Development
hearing and vision disabilities

Sitios has so far focused heavily on people with mobility disabilities. In a new project, ginto is being made fit for people with visual and hearing disabilities.

One app for all types of disabilities

Is it too loud in the restaurant to hear something with my hearing aid? Is it bright enough for me to read from my lips? Or is it too bright so that I am blinded with my hypersensitive eyes? Can I use the read-aloud function on my smartphone for the menu or is it too loud for that?

Not all places are easily accessible even for people with visual and hearing disabilities. In order to be able to independently plan a trip, a doctor's visit or a meal with friends, they need objective and standardized information about the accessibility of buildings. Sitios wants to make ginto usable for people with visual and hearing disabilities. Because it is important to us to take all disabilities equally into account. For this purpose, ginto is being expanded to include appropriate functions and criteria. The wish to expand the platform for people with sensory disabilities was also repeatedly expressed by users.

New features in ginto

By developing new features and introducing new criteria, we want to make our platform usable for all types of disabilities. To do this, we work closely with people with visual and hearing disabilities to precisely understand their needs and requirements and to test the newly developed functions. The extensions should make it possible to easily collect, publish and use information relevant to them in various applications. With new requirement profiles, it will be possible to present information specifically for people with auditory and visual deficiencies. We are also revising the user interfaces of our websites, web applications and smartphone apps to make them barrier-free. In doing so, we are guided by the WCAG 2.1 compliance level AA standard. Last but not least, we collect relevant information for people with visual and hearing disabilities and, as usual, make this available as open data to all interested organizations and people. In this way, they can make their offers inclusive for the new target group.
